EU4 is only good if you haven't played the two above. What's you favourite game between hoi4, eu4 and ck2? HOI4 doesn't compare particularly well to Stellaris, but if you enjoyed customising your ships and microing battles, HOI4 might be a good match. The games can as far as I know, bar Stellaris have their saves converted to one another in order, så technically you could bring an empire to the end of HOI4. But game wise, CK2 is waaaay better than HOI4. EU4 is also not a bad choice, granted it's all about expanding really but it does offer a decent amount of things to do and manage during down times with a fair bit of complexity to no make it boring.
HoI4 quickly wears out for me, there's simply not enough interesting things to mess about with and the novelty of going a-historical runs out fast. HoI4 is only good if you pick up Kaiserreich. There is no known fix or workaround just yet for the month-start hesitations, nor for the autosave lag in Ironman mode.I'd spring for EU4 HOI4 is cool, but I just don't think that it has the replay value that Europa has.
If none of the above helps you can try any of the low-res mods in the EU3 User Mods forum also is it presumed and hoped that Paradox will further optimise EU4 performance in upcoming patches (1.1.3 was just release at the time of writing this, so after that).
